SOUTH SENECA TO ERECT CENOTAPH:  All graduates invited to participate!

There is a stone on route from Darfur, Sudan in Africa to Ovid, NY.  There is another that is here already from the shores of Seneca Lake.  With these stones and many more our students will learn and commemorate the wide spread influences and experiences that add to the lives of South Seneca Students of the past, present and future.  We hope you will join us in our efforts and help us on our mission.

A CENOTAPH will be erected on school grounds in the spring of ’09 under the direction of Tina Bauder, Middle School Social Studies teacher.  A cenotaph is a memorial or a monument erected in honor of a person or group of people who are elsewhere.  Our South Seneca Cenotaph will include stones from individuals and groups who are or have been a part of the South Seneca School Community and have enriched the lives of our students over time.  The learning that goes on in a school does not all come from the teachers within the walls of the school buildings.  South Seneca students are fortunate to be continually enriched by the legacy of former graduates, and the many local, national and global community friends and family, who care about young people, education and world citizenship.  We want to honor the knowledge and experiences we gain from connections to the world as well as recognize how South Seneca has helped young people grow and develop into world citizens through out the history of the school.

Our goal is to collect a stone from each person or group who has touched the lives of the South Seneca School Community and/or has been positively influenced by their school experience to go out into the world and do good things.  We hope to collect stones from many different parts of the country and the world!  Each stone will have a story! Please bring or send YOUR stone (with your name, year of graduation, College or Trade School attended, Military Service Info, Present Job, City and State you are living and any information about the stone) to Tina Bauder, South Seneca Middle School, 7263 South Main Street, Ovid, NY 14521.
