CAPITAL PROJECT UPDATE  -- March 2009

In Ovid, the construction of the new gymnasium has continued to move forward. The final foundations have been poured in preparation of the delivery of the structural steel that will shortly form the skeleton of the new structure. In addition, the new MS/HS administration area is almost complete with the hope of moving into this space in the very near future. One of the more noticeable things when arriving in the building will be the new secure check in area at the office location. Very shortly you will see the contractors working their way across the front lawn (nearer the building) as they lay a new sewage and water line. 

Beginning at the end of this month will be the commencement of work at the elementary school with the contractors focusing on the new handicap ramp at what will be the new parent entrance (currently the main student entrance) and the new entrance area on the north side of the building. 

You may have also heard that although originally scheduled for three summers, all have agreed to move forward with a more aggressive schedule in an effort to complete work in only two summers. Needless to say the next two summers will be very hectic for all involved, including not only the contractors, but also our cleaning and maintenance crews, as they will still need to prepare the buildings for returning students and staff each September. To that end, and in recognition of maintaining a safe environment for all, we are strictly limiting building use at both Ovid and Interlaken for at least this summer.  Further information regarding locations for summer school and summer feeding programs will be forwarded to you as soon as it is available.

There will also be a myriad of other infrastructure and technological improvements made at both buildings as well.

In the meantime, the Ovid safety committee has been meeting on a regular basis to discuss safety issues related to the project and otherwise. The bi-monthly air monitoring tests have shown that we are not encountering any out of the ordinary conditions to this point.

The Interlaken safety committee will be forming and meeting before the end of April. In anticipation, I have ordered base line air samples from various areas. If you would like to serve on this committee as a community member please contact me.
