Project Update December 2008
The project is moving along very well with the
excellent and expedient work of our contractors, the work of our
architects and construction managers and most importantly the
cooperation and understanding of all those effected at the Ovid site.
Here are some specific updates -
OVID CAMPUS
NEW PARKING LOT
The new parking lot is ready to accept vehicles
including student drivers which will be allowed back on campus after the
holiday to park in this new lot only. We will be putting in a cross
walk to assist with safety as well as signs
NEW DOOR FROM THE GIRLS’ HS LOCKER ROOM
A door is being
put into the girls’ locker-room from the landing located just outside
the “official” entrance of the High
School wing. This was necessary to allow for a secondary means of egress
from this space in case of an emergency. Although not necessarily
planned at this time, the door will also eventually become the new
entrance into the Nursing Suite to be completed in summer 2010. The old
secondary egress from this space was into the Guinan Gym.
GUINAN GYM AND NEW GYM
The Guinan Gym is being dismantled very quickly
with walls being taken down in the very near future. In case anyone
asks, we’ve have been able to save many items from the gym including
lighting, bleachers, baskets etc. for future use if need be. Credit to
all Phys. Ed. Teachers and coaches for being very flexible in scheduling
as they now work with one less station than previous. The new gym, which
should be complete in January 2010 (ish), is the main project for the
General Contractor at this time as they begin to plan on foundations for
the new structure. Keep tuned in to the web cam to watch the progress.
MS ADMINSTRATIVE OFFICE RENOVATION
The renovation of this space into a dual MS/HS
suite will begin over the holiday break and last approximately two
months. Although the main entrance will still be open, about part of the
doorway and the entrance into the cafeteria will be blocked off. A new
door into the MS café will be placed from the atrium. As a result of the
renovation, we have the following temporary office re-locations
occurring over the course of next week:
MS Office (Bob F. and Karen)==è
Teacher Faculty Lounge
MS Copier===============è

Thanks to all above and the maintenance department
for making these moves. Some of these spaces are less than ideal and
their understanding and team play is
greatly appreciated by all.
LOGISTICS
The logistics team at Ovid will now begin to focus
on work which will occur this upcoming summer.
The logistics team from Interlaken has begun to
meet to discuss upcoming work at that location. As details become more
clear we will get it out to you as soon as possible.
SAFETY COMMITTEE
The Ovid Safety
Committee met recently. Jim Drew our BOCES Safety coordinator
shared that all air samples to this point have come back normal. Also,
in the committee Kim Gray from Bovis shared project related safety
items. The safety committee meets on a monthly basis as will
Interlaken’s once we get nearer construction at that location.
Please let me know if you any questions and have a
great holiday!
