PROJECT NEWSLETTER                                  NOVEMBER 2008

As you can tell from driving by or around the Ovid site in the last week or so there has been a lot happening as our site contractor didn’t waste any time in getting our project moving in a positive direction. The new parking lot to the north of the building is progressing very rapidly and should be ready to accept vehicles in the very near future. The site crew is also prepping the old south parking lot for what will be the new building pad for the gymnasium and of course the new parking areas in that location. It is truly impressive in how much has happened in such a short period of time.

The next week will also bring additional changes to the Ovid Site. First, the fitness/weight  room has been re-located to the last bay in the bus garage and is in working condition and will be used by coaches and PE teachers in that area until the new room is ready in Jan 10. By next Friday, we will be re-locating our middle school nurse, across the hallway from her present location to a space which has been converted from the MS girl’s locker room office. The space is functional, albeit certainly not ideal, so a thank you to her for adapting to this change. Also next week we will be closing down the Guinan gym, removing fixtures that are worth saving and prepping it for demolition. The demolition will not be done by wrecking ball but by a machine that will sort of pick it apart, not quite as dramatic, but effective nonetheless. This will obviously cause some additional noise which the district will be monitoring to keep student disruptions to a minimum.

In the fitness/weight room a temporary but weather proof wall will replace the current dividing wall between the wrestling/adaptive pe room and the fitness weight room so that demo can begin in this area. The wrestling/adaptive pe room will be available for use throughout the school year.

On the safety side of things, our safety committee meets on a monthly basis and discussed safety issues surrounding our students and staff as it relates to the project and day to day operations. One of the areas of concern with all project is air quality. The district takes this issue very seriously and will be working with our health and safety inspector, through BOCES to monitor spaces on a regular basis and correcting problems as quickly as possible.

I will also be updating our website in the next week with some new features including these type of updates, minutes from safety committee meetings and a live webcam.

With Kind Regards,
