School's Transportation Department strives to deliver
professional service by school bus to all the district students
that are qualified to receive transportation, not only to Ovid
and Interlaken, but to other locations such as TST Boces, Wayne
Fingerlakes Boces, off campus programs and schools based on
student's needs. We also transport all sport activities and
music activities as well as classroom "field trips" from both
school locations. Children from ages 4-21 ride district buses
over 400,000 miles each year. That is equal to the moon and back
twice each year, or 16 times around the earth's equator. Each school bus driver receives a minimum of 30 hours of classroom training when they begin driving a school bus, followed by about 40 hours of on-road training, 4 hours minimum of classroom training each year and chances for in-service training through out the school year. They also are each fingerprinted, participate in random drug and alcohol testing, and have yearly physical exams and yearly driving evaluations to make sure each one passes rigid requirements set by New York State. Each driver is professional and knowledgeable about all aspects of school bus transportation. Each school bus monitor also receives the same training as the school bus drivers and have their own set of qualifications that includes 10 hours of training specifically for them, fingerprinting, yearly exams and in service opportunities. Each school bus receives twice yearly inspection from NYS Department of Transportation during on site inspections as well as being on a very strict preventive maintenance program with our staff. South Seneca Central School is always looking for qualified, professional staff to join our organization as bus drivers or bus monitors. Training is provided.
